Churn
In reflecting on the call centre as a place of economic production within capitalism, “Churn” explores the alienation of workers within these spaces. Ninety-eight A4 mounted digital prints create a fragmented image, resonating with the modular “personal” spaces of production. The artwork depicts a cluttered office space, with tightly clustered empty cubicles reflecting the dehumanizing aspects of rote office work. Here you are but a drone, adding to the cacophony of production, with individuality reduced to a few small objects within your workstation. Ephemera of the work place is strewn about the image, analogous with the assumed disposability of the office occupants, the constant churn of employees and the inexorable pulse of economic output.
